Mission Statement
The GRACE Center is committed to providing opportunities for children
with motor disabilities to achieve independence physically and socially
through the practice and application of the conductive education method.
The GRACE Center is a non-profit organization and a registered charity
that will rely upon donations to continue its work.
Program Description
The GRACE Center offers short term (4 week) and
year round programs for children ages 6 months to 14
years. Children are accepted based on an assessment and
evaluation process which consists of an assessment questionnaire,
medical summaries, an educational document (IFSP/IEP)
and a personal consultation with our Conductor. Scholarships
are available to families who qualify for financial assistance.
Trained, professional Conductors and conductive services are provided
by the International Institute for Conductive Education, Inc. All conductors
have a four year degree in Conductive Education.
Class schedule usually runs 3 hours
long and is as follows:
• Socializing, welcoming each other and starting with independent dressing
(taking off shoes, braces, socks, changing clothes if needed).
• Going to the bathroom.
• Stretching and walking to the plinth table.
• Sitting program (sitting on stool without back support or on ladder back
chair, working on balance and stability at plinth table).
• Self feeding at snack time. Going to bathroom.
• Lying program (working on arms, hands, stomach, chest and back muscles,
legs, feet by completing different exercises including pushing up on all fours,
sitting on heels, lying on back and stomach).
• Standing and walking program (standing by the wall, by walker or ladder,
stepping to the sides, kneeling down, and shifting weight).
• Individual program, based on special needs.
Program also focuses on life skills and includes
the following:
• Communication and verbalization
• Potty training, practicing washing hands, brushing teeth
• Independent eating and drinking, practicing sitting at the table
• Playing and socialization
